8-PASSES RUN – SUNDAY 29TH JANUARY 2012

We had our 8-Passes Run on Sunday 16th January 2011.

In the immortal words of our venerable friend Mr Arthur Crick... “A RIDE WAS BORN...”.

And no words could be truer, because by popular demand, we shall have it again in 2012 on

Sunday 29th January 2012.

WHAT A RIDE!

In fact, the ride was so popular and enjoyed, that Ernie and Lynnette Aylward offered to

sponsor a badge per participant to commemorate the event during 2011!!

What great gesture Folks!!! Thanks again Ernie and Lynnette for the 2011 sponsorship...

The Badges really looks GOOD!. The committee had a special event during one of the

monthly functions to hand over these badges to all of the 46 Participants.

A bit down Memory Lane on the 16th January 2011 run and in brief:

We took off from the Dealership and divided the large pack of 34 bikes and 12 Pillions into 4

smaller packs to make riding less stressful. The weather played along and was just

wonderfully sunny.

We set sail for Du Toitskloof Pass and had a quick stop on-top as usual. Magnificent View.

The Low clouds after the top was just wonderful in creating a most wonderful vista to enjoy.

The stop at Bourbon Street in Robertson was quite welcome for a couple of thirsty ones.

On to Kogmanskloof Pass (pass nr 2) and the wonderful Hole-in-the-Wall. Inspiration caught

us all and Eddie accepted his role as new Head Safety Officer at the leg-stretch just after

Kogmans...

Most bikes filled up either in Robertson or Montague in anticipation of the rather lengthy run

from Montague North via the Luscious Koo-Valley, up Burgers Pass (nr 3) and Rooihoogte

Pass (nr 4) all the way to turn right onto the N1 direction Touwsrivier and then left to Ceres

after a couple of miles.

Next came Die Vensters and Therons Pass just before Ceres as passes nrs 5 and 6.

Ceres and the Spur were a real treat and a well-deserved rest after 340km!

After a spot of lunch and some refreshments, the group set off for Mitchells Pass (pass nr 7)

with its long winding curves. Heading South-West for the Towering mountains and the final

and 8th Pass - Bainskloof Pass. A relief to have to ride at very low speed and just ENJOY the

absolutely GREAT scenery of Bainskloof....

8 Passes and 443km for 2011 from start to finish. We are changing the route a bit for 2012,

but the distances will be about the same...

As Arthur said... A Ride’s been born. 29th January 2012, here we come!!!
